degihistory

 History of Degimedia:

In 1999 we made our first trip across the United States and into BC, Canada. We played music in coffee houses, bars, and in the street. We met a lot of interesting characters and were inspired to use the young internet to merge music, artwork, and communication. We had already begun building a large archive of recordings and artwork. Our primary means of promotion involved handing out stickers with our original artwork and email address.

We started with a apache web server back around 2000 using the degicank.com <http://degicank.com> domain. We experimented with free music hosting, periodic audio information posts (now called pod casts), traditional print newsletters and brick and mortar music events such as outdoor festivals and indoor benefit concerts.

In 2001 we created a cooperative animated movie with different artists who had joined our network. This was the first of many avant gaurde animation and music films. We also began creating biannual compilation CD’s with music form different bands. We have carried on this tradition ever since. The bands/musicians duplicate as many copies of the sampler and give them away for free. The bands benefit from reaching diverse groups of listeners.

Throughout the years we experimented with some basic / static websites and utilized a 3rd party forum to communicate among our community. With promotional music and art tours in 2002 and 2003 we built our contact list across the USA. We started publishing The Econocank, a huge anthology of music and artwork.

Planet 22 - Happy Bears

Andy of the Future with That Toga Band, Controlled Storms, and KB Noise @ World Cafe Live in Philly July 9th

An accomplised band that is never predictable, That Toga Band combines jazz, rock and latin influences together with creative composition, ambient sound and thoughtful instrumentation in order to create their own brand of music. Influenced by artists such as Bill Evans, Steve Kimock, and Neil Young, That Toga Band creates original music that turns heads in a truly new direction.

Melding acoustijazz flimflam and spacey landscapes with rock solid beats, That Toga Band pursues organic explorations of a creative smorgasbord. Structuring sonic melodies from a strongly harmonic angle, That Toga Band maintains subtle oddity while juggling odd time signatures and key changes. Quirky antics and light hearted entertainment shape the band's motto: "Invent yourself before you reinvent yourself."

That Toga Band has been creating and performing original compositions since December 2003 when the founding members met at the University of Vermont. Originally an improvisational based acoustic duo that was "forever engaging in characteristic pursuits of true underwater vibrational research", That Toga Band has meshed into a compositionally focused group that pushes the limits of what three people are capable of.

Chuck's Farm Early Warning System

I talked to Chuck this last weekend, and he confirmed that Chuckstock will definately be the first weekend in October. I am sure that there will be a work-party the weekend prior to Chuckstock, to get his land ready for the party. Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it out that weekend. I plan right now to drive out Sept 19 to check out the sinkhole kitchen area, do some prep work, and haul out a load of supplies (mainly firewood and trash bags, if I can get them). See all you lunatics on Oct 2 - 4! Come down to the kitchen for the free food. Blessed Be Dr. Suitcase ________________________ ATTENTION PLEASE! If you would like to reply to Dr. Suitcase or share ideas about Chuck's Farn planning...please visit: http://planet22.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=chf&action=display&thread=... Futre Album Cover

Futre Album CoverYo I am very close to finishing a new album, i started on WED, I have almost all tracks done... 10 track album, 3 bonus/hidden tracks and a companion disc 2 techno album. Instruaments include banjo, acoustic and electric guitar, bass, drums, congos/bongos/bells/and that whip thing from the christmas song, acoustic piano, djx keyboard, tambo, marimba, xylophone, timpani, singing... I'll ftp it and than make a site similar to the ol' needle eye site. I came upstairs from getting the footage to make the album cover when I was talking to myself about starving to death because there are no clean bowls. I realized i was taling out loud and said what is on the cover. I usually highly censor myself but this time i thought I had to let it pass because it is my art. If you want a copy of the album stand by for ftp site or send me an email at degicank @gmail.com requesting a brick and mortar copy.
