History of Degimedia:

In 1999 we made our first trip across the United States and into BC, Canada. We played music in coffee houses, bars, and in the street. We met a lot of interesting characters and were inspired to use the young internet to merge music, artwork, and communication. We had already begun building a large archive of recordings and artwork. Our primary means of promotion involved handing out stickers with our original artwork and email address.

We started with a apache web server back around 2000 using the degicank.com <http://degicank.com> domain. We experimented with free music hosting, periodic audio information posts (now called pod casts), traditional print newsletters and brick and mortar music events such as outdoor festivals and indoor benefit concerts.

In 2001 we created a cooperative animated movie with different artists who had joined our network. This was the first of many avant gaurde animation and music films. We also began creating biannual compilation CD’s with music form different bands. We have carried on this tradition ever since. The bands/musicians duplicate as many copies of the sampler and give them away for free. The bands benefit from reaching diverse groups of listeners.

Throughout the years we experimented with some basic / static websites and utilized a 3rd party forum to communicate among our community. With promotional music and art tours in 2002 and 2003 we built our contact list across the USA. We started publishing The Econocank, a huge anthology of music and artwork.

We focus on annual events to give our organization a sense of tradition. Many of the folks who visit our website also try to meet old friends at our annual events. We are building into the future, our commitment and family ties reflect our strong foundation.

Around 2006 we began experimenting with vmware's virtualization for our web services and internal projects. We started experimenting with some of the CMS engines that were available freely on the net starting with PHPnuke. Php nuke didn't go to well but we continued on with our site. Eventually we came upon the drupal open source early in 2007 CMS and were intrigued with its multimedia capabilities especially the audio features. At first we used dedicated servers running red hat Linux and eventually moved to centos ( a red hat Linux enterprise clone).

We have continued to build credibility and durability. In 2007 we were fully virtualized in vmware gsx server running centos. We offer a unique site for music hosting. Users need not have money or commitment to participate in music and art publishing. Our organization includes a core group of about a dozen lieutenants, each bring expertise to the table. Our key figures have grown up to be experts in science, hardware, software, graphic design, and video production, and we have spread across the United States.

We experimented with the drupal cms for some time and it took some time to pick up steam, members and work out the bugs and how to use the system for publishing. we're still experimenting and working things out. Throughout this time we used various hardware and platforms for our services. 99% of our system is hosted and maintained internally.

In 2008 we began migrating to microsoft windows platform. we received donations from Microsoft which made this possible. In 2009 we fully migrated to the windows 2008 / hyper v virtualization. Currently based out of our blackpoint California data center. we have begun setting up a DR site in the northeastern us and hope to have our VT data center and DR site completed in the next few years. we also launched degimedia and began moving our virtual assetts under the degimedia brand.

We are in our infancy right now. Our initial plan called for a ten year planning and experimenting phase. The ten years will be complete on September, 9^th . We are hoping to host real and virtual events surrounding this important milestone.

This Day in DegIHistory

can I get a what what (in the Sam Hill)!

It was ten years ago this day when particles of energy bouncing between the anti and anti-anti chamber collided to form what is now known as DegICank. Since its inception, one earthly decade ago, DegICank has managed to bring to this terra firma not only the CORE processor but also the Hydrocelator, proving that ice cream sandwiches can be moved through both time and space. Though it has been a long/short and trying/simple process and would personally like to that the founders JoeChrissirhCeoJ, for providing all of us the splendor in reveling in nothing/all.

May be the first to salute you all with a: Make My Cank a DEGICANK
